Encouragement for Your Cancer Journey

From my own Journey with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma

January 2017

My life took a 180 degree turn on January 25 when I walked into an ENT appointment.  I  expected to walk out with a nasal spray to help the congestion I had been experiencing for months.  Instead I walked out having been informed by my doctor that he "didn't like what he saw" and that I was to go and get a CT scan in the next building and then come back later that same day with my husband.

I got the CT scan.  I went back with Stephen.  Although it wasn't confirmed verbally that day,   I spent the next 24 hours getting MRI's, more CT scans, and by the next Monday I was in the hospital getting a biopsy to confirm what this mass was.

It was cancer. Adenoid cystic carcinoma.  It is a rare, salivary gland cancer that had begun in my palate and grew into my nasal cavity.  It had already eroded bone and I was informed it had been growing for a couple years.

There are no symptoms for ACC.  There are no signs.  But the months of constant congestion I had experienced brought me to this diagnosis that sent me on a whirlwind for the following 6 months.

I am here to share my story with you.  It was a time I was most intimate with God.  I had to stare my own mortality in the face and come to a place where I truly had to let go and trust myself in God's hands...trust my husband and children into God's hands.  I had to surrender control and hold onto hope.

This is my story.  I share in hopes my journey encourages you along your and that your struggling heart is infused with hope, as mine was.

Here are some pictures from my journey...
