Yesterday Stephen and I walked through Faneuil Hall after my first treatment. We approached a musician playing and realized he was playing our wedding song. We only caught the end of it but it got me all choked up. Some may call it a coincidence, I call it a divine appointment; someone being placed along my path to remind me that God is with me and that I am exactly where I need to be.
This isn't the first divine appointment I have experienced along this journey with cancer. The day of surgery a gentleman wheeled me into the operating room. The person who introduced him to me for whatever reason shared that he was a very spiritual person. I introduced myself to him and shared that spirituality is important to me too. He then spoke faith filled words of encouragement to me on my way to surgery. It was a brief encounter but one that brought me peace as I was wheeled into the operating room.
Then while I lay on the table, in a drug-induced drowsy state, I shared with those in the room that I was thankful for them - and I don't know what else I said in my groggy state but the next thing I knew was that someone had walked themselves over next to my head leaning in whispering in my ear, "Jesus is with you." The person repeated this comforting truth to me a few times before the medicine sent me into a deep sleep.
Now before I go on, I want to say that hearing 'Jesus' can make some people cringe and others smile. Please know I am sharing this, not to impose my spiritual path on you but to share that God met me where I am spiritually with these divine appointments. I wholeheartedly believe there are divine appointment set up for each of us every day along our individual paths.
Again, often called a coincidence, serendipitous or fortuitous moments, I believe these encounters are gifts from God. Divine appointments that remind us we are where we need to be and that God is with us on this journey.
This may resonate with you, or maybe it doesn't. No pressure to believe what I believe.
These divine appointments have brought me such peace along this journey that I felt compelled to share in case anyone else needed encouragement to know God is with them too. If you are needing encouragement along your path, I invite you to...
Pause. Breathe. Pray.
Keep your eyes, ears and heart open to divine appointment(s) along your path. May they encourage you and remind you that you are where you need to be and God is beside you on your journey.
