At the end of last week, I wasn't feeling great. Not sure if it was the treatments, being homesick or a combination of both. I was ready to go home by Friday and be with my family, back in our home, in my hometown.
On arriving home I was greeted by this Box of Sunshine. It is from a local Girl Scout troop. It was filled with encouraging notes and yummy treats for our family. It definitely made my heart smile and watching my children's faces grin ear to ear as they read the personalized messages was priceless.
This Box of Sunshine was a seed of love scattered our way that made our world more beautiful.
The night before I left for the week, I read one of my favorite books to my children, Miss Rumphius. If you're unfamiliar with the story it is about a well traveled lady, Miss Rumphius, who has a goal in life is to make the world a more beautiful place. She realizes she can do so by scattering lupine seeds around her town, every year bringing beauty to her quaint, coastal town.
After reading the book with my children I reminded them of the Sunshine box they received and how people were scattering seeds of love our way. I encouraged them this week to notice seeds of love that are being scattered their way and to scatter their unique seeds this week along their path. All these seeds of love being scattered make the world more beautiful.
Last night I asked them if they had any stories to share from their day about any seeds of love they scattered or any that came their way...and they had all forgotten about it:-) (This is reality my friends, not a perfect picture I am painting for you.)
The truth is, whether or not they choose to do as I have encouraged them this week, the lesson from Miss Rumphius - making it a goal in life to make the world more beautiful place by using our unique gifts - is planted in their hearts. My hope is they are able to see the seeds of love scattered our way during this time, like the Box of Sunshine. And when it's on their hearts to scatter their seeds, they will - and the world will be a more beautiful place because of it.
It is on my heart this week to see the seeds being scattered our way AND to scatter seeds along my path. I invite you to...
Pause. Breathe. Pray.
And join me today keeping your eyes and ears open for where love is needed and choose to scatter seeds of love in that direction today using your unique seeds, and remember to also give thanks for the seeds of love scattered your way.
With love and hope,
