Heartbroken; and hopeful...

With all the tragedies the past couple of weeks I am sitting here heartbroken for each life lost.  I thought my heart couldn't break anymore...

and then it did.

Yesterday I learned that a beautiful, kind soul I went to High School with took his own life.  I hadn't spoken to him in a very long time but it still pierced my core.

Hitting rock bottom is not the end  ;  it is the foundation on which you can rebuild your life on.

Whether you are hitting rock bottom because of the ways of the world, or because you are in the pit of despair, I have four words for you...

Hold

On

To

Hope

Cling to it as though your life depends on it, which very may well be the case.

It was for me.

In my pit of depression I clung to the hope that I could get better.  I clung to the hope that my suffering wouldn't be pointless.  I clung to the hope that someday I could use my suffering to help comfort someone else's suffering.  I clung to the hope that there was more than the suffering, more than the pit, more than the numbness...

I am grateful my story did not end

;

it continues on.

Oh how I wish our friend had chosen differently.  It is heartbreaking the love and light lost because his flame was extinguished too soon.  Yet I won't allow his death to go without the hope that it will help someone else's LIFE.

No matter how deep in the pit you are, please, oh please LOOK UP!  Reach for the hands that are there, and if there aren't any that you see, reach out to 2-1-1  http://www.211.org/, the national suicide prevention line at 1-800-273-8255, or 9-1-1.

Seek help.  It may take every bit of strength to humble yourself to take that step but please take it!

Your life is a gift, and only partially unwrapped.  Allow yourself the opportunity to fully unwrap who you are so you can experience your LIFE as your were meant to.

When you get to the edge, as so many of us have been, please choose to...

Pause. Breathe. Pray.

And know...

  • YOUR LIFE IS WORTH LIVING
  • TODAY IS A NEW BEGINNING
  • YOU DON'T NEED TO CARRY THE STORY OF YESTERDAY WITH YOU INTO THIS DAY
  • LET THE OLD YOU STAY IN THE PAST
  • TODAY IS A NEW CHAPTER
  • LET THE NEW YOU BEGIN TO RISE LIKE THE MORNING SUN

Again, the bottom of the pit isn't the end; it is the foundation on which you can rebuild your life on - one moment at a time.

From the bottom of my heart, I pray you look up, reach out for help and begin a new chapter in your story today, the one towards healing and peace.

And if you are doing well but while reading this a person popped into your head who you are concerned about, PLEASE reach out to them- even if it doesn't make sense that you are the one that reaches out.  Leave your pride aside and do it.

As heartbroken as we may be, holding on to HOPE will carry us through.

Peace,

Shawn
